Correctional land near Cottonwood up for auction

Correctional land near Cottonwood up for auction

It doesn’t look like much, but it’s 7.24 acres of land that used to be home to the staff and families of Idaho Department of Correction. Located just outside the city limits of Cottonwood, the parcel features 18 condemned homes that are uninsurable and repairs would be too costly.

The homes were built in 1955 to house staff for the U.S. Air Force who were working at the radar station that later become the North Idaho Correctional Institution.

The land is being auctioned in “as is” condition on August 24 at the Cottonwood Community Hall Lodge, located at 506 King Street. The minimum bid is priced at $104,000. To be eligible to bid, you must place a 30% or $31,200 cash, check or money order deposit.

Sleep or Eat? It's a tough choice for one Spokane baby

My adorable 10-month old son, Hunter really likes to eat. Okay, maybe that's an understatement. He loves to eat. In fact, he already eats double what my daughter ate at his age. I like to say he gets it from his dad!

He loves bananas, cereal puffs and then there are graham crackers - don't get me started. He can't have too many graham crackers - even when he's exhausted and can barely stay awake.

Lewiston man arrested for assault on jogger

A Lewiston man was arrested Tuesday morning after threatening a jogger with a knife.

According to the jogger he ran into the suspect near the 700 block of Snake River Avenue. He was jogging along when the suspect growled and made gestures at him. The jogger continued on his way, and then returned, passing by the same location where he had seen the suspect earlier.

This time, as the jogger attempted to pass him by, the suspect growled at him, blocked his path and told him to go around. The suspect then pulled a folding knife from his pocket and pointed it in the direction of the jogger.

The jogger eventually left the suspect, who followed him for a short distance, behind and called police, giving officers a description of what the suspect looked like and what he was wearing.

Officers caught up with the suspect in the 300 block of Snake River Avenue, the suspect ignored the officers as they made contact with him and eventually they had to physically restrain him.

Benjamin Kovach, 26, of Lewiston was arrested and charged with one count of aggravated assault and booked into the Nez Perce County Jail.
