Crimes Rates in Lewiston Not As High As Internet Says

Statistics from the Jan-June 2011 crime report shows a decrease in crime compared to the 2010 statistics.

Chief of Police, Steven W. Orr, provided the summary to the city of Lewiston after they asked about the crime rates for the area. Apparently a website called Area Vibes listed Lewiston as having non-encouraging crime rates.

Lewiston has all the quality-of-life crimes other cities have; i.e., shoplifting, burglaries (vehicle, residential, and commercial); domestic violence; theft; etc that are directly associated with illegal drug activity.

He summarized previous annual statistics saying 2009 saw an increase, 2010 a slimmer increase and 2011, an overall decrease.

KZBG 97.7 and KZID 98.5 news director, Mia Carlson, overheard scanner chat between two Idaho Sheriff’s deputies.

While heading eastbound on Highway 12 toward Orofino, one deputy asked, “Is it snowing out where you are at?

Meanwhile, Lookout Pass got a very thin coat of snow.

A flash mob took over Palouse Mall in Moscow to celebrate Halloween. Dancers boogied to Michael Jackson's 'Thriller' to shoppers' surprise.

Spokane-based Clearwater Paper is selling its sawmill in Lewiston, Idaho to Coeur d'Alene-based Idaho Forest Group for $30 Million.

LC Valley Starts Facebook Page, Hoping and Wishing for Trader Joe's

It worked for Spokane so why not the LC Valley? That's what a new Facebook page is hoping for at least. All they want for Christmas is a Trader Joe's.

The page only has 33 likes as of now, but for all we know it could increase to thousands like the one in Spokane.

The Spokane store opens Friday morning at 8 a.m.

Liquor Control Board Allows Performers to Drink on Stage

Amended changes to Liquor Control Board code now allows entertainers to drink while performing.

The Board voted Wednesday to amend the original code change from 2010 that made it illegal for entertainers to drink on stage.

The previous change defined entertainers as employees of the venue adding employees are always prohibited from consuming liquor of any kind while working on licensed premises.

Community input is needed for a downtown Lewiston revitalization. City planners are creating blueprints that will change the appearance and function of 1st and 5th.

Changes will create a gateway to the community and provide improved access to future development at the Twin City Foods property near the Levee Bypass.

This is the opportunity for residents to throw in their “Christmas Wishlist” for the upcoming plans. Maybe you’d like to see bicycle lanes, public art or better configuration for parking lots.

To share your input, you can attend the Thursday, October 27th public meeting from 4-6 p.m. at the Bell Building, located at 215 D St.
