Sheriff's Office warns of fraudulent Craigslist listings

Sheriff's Office warns of fraudulent Craigslist listings

Nez Perce Sheriff's Office wants citizens to know that they have received two reports of fraudulent residential listings through Craigslist.

The two listings, advertising either houses or apartments for rent in the Lewiston and Clarkston area, establish contact with interested parties requesting money for a deposit or rent to addresses outside the United States.

The Sheriff's Office added that the victims are then told the owners are on a trip, vacation, etc, and the money needs to be sent out of the country. Once the money is received, the suspects will mail the key to the victims.

"Needless to say if money is sent," Chief deputy Alan Johnson said in a press release. He continued, "there is no further contact from the suspect(s)."
