Spokane-Style Beer is Federally Approved

Spokane-Style Beer is Federally Approved

No-Li Brewhouse has been crafting beer in the Northwest since 1993. Their branding pays homage to their love of Spokane and the region. Now, No-Li has put Spokane on the map as a major force in the world of craft brews. Earlier this week No-Li announced that they have gotten federal approval for a new style of craft beer. Spokane-Style.

What makes a beer Spokane-Style? Well, first off it must be brewed and packaged in Spokane. But the origin of the beer goes beyond that. To be classified as Spokane-Style all the ingredients must come from within 300 miles of the city. Naturally, all of No-Li beers fall under the category of Spokane-Style.

No-Li attributes its close to home ingredients for driving its demand in other areas of the country. Whole Foods carries it in Washington D.C. and the largest liquor stores in Colorado have started selling the brand as well. No-Li is on tap both at Safeco Field and Century Link Field in Seattle.

College Bound Scholarship Available for WA Students

A state funded scholarship program is making the burden of affording higher education easier for low income families. Students apply for the program in the eighth grade and this year's dead line is on the horizon. Applications for the College Bound Scholarship Program are due on June 30th.

To qualify for the program, the student's family must meet one of four income standards and still be in the required income bracket when they file their FAFSA their senior year of high school. The income standards include students who are eligible for the free or reduced lunch program, if their family receives basic food or TANF benefits, or if the family makes below a certain income depending on size. Students who are in foster care are automatically eligible.

Man Dies at Granite Point

Man Dies at Granite Point

An autopsy is scheduled for a Pullman man after an accidental fall from a cliff at Granite Point, located on the Whitman County side of the Snake River.

Police and emergency crews responded to the scene around 2 am Friday morning. Preliminary investigation shows that Andrew P. Duke, 23, was with three friends and that at some point he walked away from the group. His friends later found him at the bottom of a 50 foot cliff and called 911.

Whitman County Sheriff's Office says that the injuries appear to be consistent with a fall but that alcohol is believed to be involved in the accident.

Federal agencies at odds over firefighter's death

The U.S. Forest Service is contesting a citation issued against it by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration following the death of a 20-year-old Forest Service firefighter last summer.

OSHA spokeswoman Deanne Amaden tells the Lewiston Tribune in a story published Friday that the two agencies are negotiating after each conducted investigations and reached separate conclusions.

Anne Veseth of Moscow died Aug. 12 after being struck and killed by a falling tree while fighting the Steep Corner Fire near Orofino.

OSHA in a report released in February says the Forest Service failed to maintain safe working conditions.

A Forest Service report released the same month says the death wasn't the result of human error but was due to the inherent dangers of fighting wildfires where risks can't be completely eliminated.
