Boise student wins holiday card contest

Boise student wins holiday card contest

The grand prize of Idaho’s holiday card contest goes to a Boise student. You-Jean Cho is this year's winner in the annual contest. Cho is a 5th grader at Jefferson Elementary School.

Her artwork will be featured on the State Department of Education’s holiday greeting cards - sent to schools and districts across the state.

Some local students have some mention as well. They were featured as the winners for their individual grade across Idaho. Winners ranged from Post Falls to Lewiston. Their artwork is unavailable at the moment for distribution, but a photo gallery will be available tomorrow.

Dogwood Festival Announces Artwork Contest

Dogwood Festival Announces Artwork Contest

Remember that scene in the movie American President when Michael Douglas’ presidential character, Andrew Sheperd, goes back and forth with the flower shop about dogwoods being both a flower and a tree.

Well, that’s true. They are both a flower and a tree. You can throw them together into artwork that could become the next design concept for the 2012 Dogwood Festival. The festival is taking submissions for a winning concept for their marketing campaign.

The are no design parameters except the design must incorporate the text, “2012 Dogwood Festival of the Lewis-Clark Valley”. Artists can decide to add this text into their submission or allow a Dogwood Festival graphics artist add it in later.

Downtown Lewiston’s mural project is set for completion on Wednesday. The Main Street mural began in September for the 513 Main St. wall. The style takes after look into a historic view of the town through downtown.

Each panel represents a different time frame. One panel shows the town from 1903 and another displays 1929. The mural was designed and painted by Idaho-based mural artist, Peter Goetzinger who grew up in Lewiston, but now lives in Sandpoint.

There will be an unveiling ceremony on Wednesday, November 9th at Noon.

Photo Gallery: Before the official “unveiling”, take a look at the mural.
