This Monday, August 29, at 3pm there will be a dedication of the exact replica of the original Philadelphia Liberty Bell taking place at the United States Federal Courthouse in Pocatello, Idaho.
Moving the Liberty Bell to the federal courthouse in Pocatello has been in the works for over 10 years. The federal judges of Idaho, the Idaho Chapter of the Federal Bar, and the Pocatello Masonic Building Association will dedicate the Liberty Bell with a reception following the ceremony. This event is open to the public.
It should warm our hearts to see that we still hold the Liberty Bell in such high esteem, and how we honor what it symbolizes, which is well stated on the inscription on the original Liberty Bell; “Proclaim Liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof.” Leviticus 25:10. The Liberty Bell is one of America’s icons with so much history. Here are a few facts about the bell which might be of interest to you: the original bell was cast in London, England, but the bell was recast several times having cracked the very first time it was rung, twice being recast because it sounded so horrible and finally cast again by the original makers in London, England. The crack that is seen in the bell today has many stories as to when and where it cracked and no one really knows what the true story is, but the crack did happen sometime between the years of 1817 to 1846. If you’d like to do a bit or research on your own, the internet has a wealth of information regarding this great symbol of “liberty” and here is a site that was informative and fun http://www.libertybellmuseum.com/resources/faqs.htm#crack.
