Suspected Zip Trip robber charged with felony | Crime
A 20-year-old Lewiston man who allegedly robbed the Zip Trip convenience store in the 1400 block of Main Street last month was arraigned today. Joseph Gage Leiterman is charged with felony robbery. A status conference is set for October 2nd in Lewiston's Second District Court.
According to police, on August 20th at about 3:22 a.m., a clerk reported that a male with a bandana over his face entered the store with a handgun, pointed it at the clerk, took cash out of the cash register, and then fled the store. Leiterman was pulled over a short time later in the 2100 block of E. Main Street. Officers recovered approximately $43 in cash which was the amount reported stolen by the Zip Trip clerk.
Officials say Leiterman eventually confessed to the robbery, and detectives were able to recover store surveillance video showing him committing the robbery, according to a previous news release. The handgun was located near 16th Street and Main Street where Leiterman had thrown it when he noticed the first responding officer attempting to catch up with him, according to LPD.
