Corrections officer treated for injuries after attack

A Whitman County Corrections Officer suffered facial injuries yesterday after after an inmate attacked him at the Whitman County Jail.

According to the sheriff's office, 26-year-old Kerry Morrison charged the officer in a surprise attack during a meal service in a maximum security unit, punching him several times in the face.

Former sheriff's deputy sentenced for relationship with 16-year-old girl

NEZPERCE, ID - A 31-year-old Kamiah man today was sentenced to 90 days in jail, given credit for 90 days served, placed on six years of supervised probation, and fined $530.50 for having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old girl.

Daniel Funderburg, who is a former Idaho County Sheriff's Deputy, pled guilty under a Rule 11 Plea Agreement in Lewis County's Second District Court to one count of sexual battery - "committed by lewd or lascivious acts on a minor child 16 or 17 years of age." He was arrested on December 5th on a $250,000 warrant.

Alleged theft from Walmart helps police arrest fugitive

A 30-year-old Lapwai woman was booked into the Asotin County Jail Monday after being arrested on a fugitive warrant. Swan Mandujano was being held in the Latah County Jail and was extradited to Asotin County yesterday to face charges of 2nd-degree identity theft and 3rd-degree theft, and a failure to pay warrant for a municipal case.

Alleged murderer granted continuance

COEUR D'ALENE, ID - The federal trial for a 48-year-old Winchester man who was indicted for the 1st-degree murder of his mother last June has been continued until September 17th.

Kenneth Broncheau was originally scheduled to stand trial on March 5 in U.S. District Court in Coeur d'Alene, but according to court documents, "the ends of justice for a continuance outweigh the Defendant's and the public's interest in a speedy trial" and "without such continuance defendant's counsel will not have adequate time to prepare, considering due diligence."

Alleged rapist of 71-year-old's trial rescheduled

ASOTIN, WA - Trial has been rescheduled yet again for a 39-year-old Clarkston man accused of allegedly raping a 71-year-old female resident of an assisted living facility nearly two years ago.

Trial for Luis Avila, who is charged with 2nd-degree rape, is now set for April 9th in Asotin County Superior Court. According to court records, the alleged rape occurred while he was a night care employee of Sycamore Glen Assisted Living in June of 2011.

Avila continues to be held on a $250,000 bond, and the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has placed an immigration hold on him.

ASOTIN, WA - A 51-year-old Moscow man who is charged with 2nd-degree assault-domestic violence against his missing estranged wife has a new attorney.

Mark Monson was appointed to represent Charles Capone in his upcoming trial after attorney Jane Richards filed a motion to withdraw due to an unwaivable conflict of interest. Asotin County Superior Court Judge William Acey granted the motion to withdraw earlier this afternoon.

Local parent tips off authorities to alleged Internet predator

LEWISTON, ID - A 45-year-old Michigan man has been arraigned on multiple federal child pornography charges after the Nez Perce County Sheriff's Office was contacted by the parent of a local 13-year-old child on January 29th. That child was allegedly being sent sexually explicit photos by Chad A. Cole of Holly, Michigan.

According to the Nez Perce County Sheriff's Office, an Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force investigation found that Chad A. Cole of Holly, Michigan had been in contact with the minor between July 2012 and January 2013.
