Lewiston drug dealer organizes exchange with narcotics detective by accident

A Lewiston man, vying to buy meth, was texting a seller to organize a hookup, but instead texted a narcotics detective with Lewiston Police.

The detective received a text message from an unknown number around 10:40 a.m. on Wednesday, suggesting the sender was attempting to organize an illegal drug buy.

By staying anonymous, the detective set up a time and place to meet so they could exchange $150 so the man, later identified as Aaron D. Templeton, 37, could redistribute those drugs to other buyers.

Plain clothed officers saw a vehicle approaching the meeting place with a female passenger, followed up by uniformed patrol officers swooping into the location to make contact with the vehicle occupants.

The detective was still exchanging text messages with the suspected buyer who then texted: “Well, that’s weird, a cop just pulled up on me so what’s up with that?”

Both vehicle occupants were identified as homeless. The female passenger was identified as Hannah B. Keen, 24.

OROFINO, Idaho (AP) -- A judge has ordered a mental health evaluation for a 56-year-old Lewiston man charged with kidnapping a 6-year-old child and holding him at knifepoint while demanding a ride into Orofino.
