Students beat fundraising goal for childhood cancer research

Students beat fundraising goal for childhood cancer research

The Colfax High School gym was abuzz with activism Wednesday morning.

The St. Baldrick's Foundation, a volunteer-driven charity raising money for childhood cancer research, hosted the event at Colfax High School, which was organized by sophomore Andrew Becker.

Students, teachers and community members walked around the gym wearing “Ask Me Why I'm Bald” pins as more than 60 people had their head shaved in front of the school population.

Before the eight barbers on hand got to cutting hair, the assembly was shown a video address from Dr. Greg Aune, Colfax High alum and cancer survivor.

“It's never easy to tell someone or hear that you have cancer,” he said.

Terry Kimberly, owner of the Thrifty Grandma Shop presented Becker with a check for $1,000, after which Becker announced “that's enough talking, let's get to this!”
