Permit issued for oversized load to travel US 12 | News
The Idaho Transportation Department today issued a permit for the transport of an oversized load that has been sitting at the Port of Wilma near Clarkston since July 22nd.
The agency approved a permit for the water purification module to travel on US 12, but advised the shipper, Omega Morgan, that the U.S. Forest Service and Federal Highway Administration also have jurisdiction to review the permit, which is effective Monday, August 5th, at 10:00 p.m.
Earlier this year, U.S. District Court Judge Lynn Winmill ruled the U.S. Forest Service and Federal Highway Administration “have legal jurisdiction to review Idaho’s approvals of mega-loads over Highway 12.”
“The shipper has met Idaho’s criteria to be issued an over-size permit. We have issued that permit so that it now can be reviewed by the two federal agencies,” said Idaho Transportation Department Chief Deputy Scott Stokes.
