Local ski resorts all hoping to open this weekend

The smell of turkey and stuffing is in the air, and that means the ski and snowboard season is nearly upon us.  Interested in hitting the slopes this holiday weekend?  It’s still a little touch and go.  At least one local resort will DEFINITELY be open this weekend; others are just waiting to see how much snow falls over the next 48 hours.  Here’s the latest, as of Wednesday afternoon:

SCHWEITZER MOUNTAIN RESORT:  OPENS SATURDAY, NOV.  24th.  Schweitzer’s website says “The current plan is to run Musical Chairs and the Basin Express lifts from 9am-3:30pm.  Lift tickets will be $40.  Sunday-Friday Season Passes will be valid on Saturday.  There will be some features set up in the Terrain Garden.  Busing and Parking will be free this weekend.  The shuttle will run on the mid-week schedule.“

49 DEGREES NORTH:  PLANNING TO OPEN “SOMETIME” THIS HOLIDAY WEEKEND.  At last report, 49 is hoping to open Friday morning, conditions permitting, with Chairs 1, 3 and 5 running.  But that could change, so make sure to call their snow line at 509-935-6649 or check their website before you go!

MT. SPOKANE SKI & SNOWBOARD PARK:  WAIT AND SEE MODE.  From General Manager Brad McQuarrie “Right now, we are in a holding pattern.   We gained a few inches of snow this morning, but not enough to get us open Friday.  The next significant snow event looks to be Friday 2-4” and Friday night 3-7”.  If the higher end of those possibilities is realized we may be able to do a limited opening for Saturday and Sunday.  Please check the website or the snowline before coming up, as we just won’t know until we see it on the ground.”

LOOKOUT PASS:  OPENING SOON.  Lookout’s website says “We're ready to go but need another foot of snow! The National Weather Services is forecasting colder temps and more snow starting Wednesday through the weekend. We're on standby and will let you know as soon as we have sufficient snow.  Check back for updates.”

SILVER MOUNTAIN RESORT:   GONDOLA RIDES START FRIDAY, LIFTS OPENING SOON.  Silver’s Facebook page just posted this update:  “Get your snowshoes out - it's snowing! Not quite enough yet to open for skiing but we'll have scenic gondola rides going from 10 to 3 on Friday and Saturday so if you'd like to go up and tromp around in the snow and get your locker ready for the season you can. The rental shop will be open if you'd like to rent some snowshoes and go check it out. The restaurant on the mountain will be open too.”
