Deer and cougar hunting season begins Saturday

Deer hunting season kicks off on Saturday in Washington state, but that’s not the only hunting season that begins.

According to Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, this year’s modern-firearms deer season includes cougar hunting. Hunters with a valid cougar license and transport tag, can hunt cougars during the season in all 39 counties.

Originally, cougar hunting in Okanogan, Chelan, Ferry, Stevens, Pend Oreille and Klickitat was delayed because of a 2004 pilot program that allowed hunters with special permits to track cougars using dogs. The program expired in August restoring full general hunting seasons in those counties.

Asotin County Awarded Over $4 million in Grants

Washington State Recreation and Conservation Funding Board has released a list of grants awarded to various Washington State Counties for 2011. Some counties received over $4 million. Some received less than $50,000. Statewide, the board awarded more than $67.5 million in grants to 234 recreation and conservation projects in 35 of the state's 39 counties. More than 400 projects were sent to the Board requesting about $200 million. The grants were reviewed and ranked during the past year. While a few of the grants were awarded in March and May, the majority of them were awarded last week.

Father's Day Ride Getaway

Father's Day Ride Getaway

Lets be honest, women can always use another handbag, cashmere sweater, jewelry or day at the spa. My point: women are easy to shop for. So when Mother's Day rolls around, there's a long list of gifts to choose from.

Men on the other hand, that's another story. I man isn't going to love if you get him another wallet. He's not going to love another polo shirt. To him, it's all the same. So, what do you get a man who has everything for Father's Day?

How about a bike ride along the Route of the Hiawatha?

Get Hoopfest Mobile!
Tracking your schedule and your favorite players at Hoopfest is set to become a lot easier this year, thanks to Hoopfest Mobile. The site, introduced for the first time this year, allows you to follow your bracket, track any player and find your court with your cell phone.

Until now, you'd have to go to the court to find out when you were playing. The other option: fight the crowds at the bracket boards at Riverfront Park. With tens of thousands of people lining downtown streets, you know the task can be quite time consuming and downright annoying.
